Water Main Installations for House Developments in Ireland

A reliable, compliant water supply is the lifeblood of any new housing scheme. Our civil engineering team delivers water main installations that meet Uisce Éireann’s standards from the very first connection enquiry through to vesting and handover, giving developers a smooth route from planning to occupation.

Pre-Connection Engagement with Uisce Éireann

Every successful water main installation starts with early engagement. We prepare and submit the Pre-Connection Enquiry to Uisce Éireann, providing the site layout, projected demand calculations, and proposed connection points. Uisce Éireann’s Confirmation of Feasibility then shapes our detailed design and helps developers plan budgets and timelines with confidence. We follow up with the Connection Agreement and manage all correspondence on your behalf.

Design to Uisce Éireann Standards

Our network designs are fully compliant with the Uisce Éireann Code of Practice for Water Infrastructure and the Standard Details and Specifications. This covers pipe sizing for domestic demand and fire flow, hydraulic modelling, valve and hydrant locations, thrust block design, and appropriate cover depths. We specify approved materials such as MDPE and ductile iron, sourced from the Uisce Éireann Approved Products List, ensuring the network is built to last and acceptable for taking in charge.

Installation and Site Supervision

On site, our engineers oversee trenching, bedding, jointing, and backfill in accordance with best practice. We coordinate carefully with foul drainage, surface water, ESB ducting, gas, and telecoms to maintain the minimum separations required and to avoid expensive clashes. Pressure testing, swabbing, and chlorination are carried out under controlled conditions, with bacteriological sampling arranged through accredited laboratories to satisfy Uisce Éireann’s commissioning requirements.

Service Connections and Metering

Each dwelling is connected via an approved boundary box and meter arrangement in line with Uisce Éireann’s domestic connection details. We program these connections to suit the build sequence, keeping the main contractor’s programme on track and ensuring homeowners enjoy a clean, fully tested supply on the day they move in.

Vesting and Taking in Charge

Once installation is complete, we compile the full as-built drawings, test certificates, CCTV records, and material certifications needed for Uisce Éireann vesting. Getting this documentation right first time accelerates handover, releases bonds sooner, and gives residents the long-term assurance of a properly adopted public water network.

Helpful Tips & Advice

Drawings

Ensure you have detailed drawings from your architect. Drawings are the instructions for self-build projects so the more detailed the drawings, the easier the build.

Costs

Pricing your drawings will give you an indication of the cost of each part of the build. It will also be an indication of what you should expect your quotes to be coming in at.

Time

Changes during a self-build project can have a big impact and a knock-on effect on other scheduled activities. Work out a realistic time-frame and programme for your project.

Quotes

Try to get at least three quotes for your project and set realistic deadlines for products and sub-contractors to be on-site. You won’t get the best prices if you leave things to a tight time-fame.

Builders

Ensure you select recommended and registered builders like Kilcran Construction. You need to ensure your builders are easy to deal with and work as a team. The less stress leads to a better build!

Product Delivery

Be aware of possible delivery delays, especially with windows. Product delivery times may vary depending on the company you’re dealing with, product location or how busy your chosen company is at the time.

Decisions

Working full-time and building a new home can be tough as you may have to handle phone calls daily and visit the site. Be aware that decisions need to be made and acted on regularly.
